3. LOGISTICAL PLANNING
“Let’s really think this through before we start” is likely the best business advice you will ever receive. Many video production projects start part way through the process – with a ‘cool idea’, but once we have the idea then what. The planning stage is taking care of the logistical side of things. The who’s, the what’s, the when’s and the where’s.
We take the time to properly plan out your production. There are many different types of videos that you can create to promote your product or business and there are many factors and costs that go into the production of a video. The success of your video project is largely determined by the time and effort we put into properly planning your project.
We’ll work with you to arrange the most suitable time to film for your video. Once we have done this, we can organise all the logistics our end. This may include actors, locations, studios, additional crews, specialist equipment (drones etc.) and crew accommodation if it’s more than one day of filming. Once all of this is organised, we’ll be ready to get started filming your video.
Depending on the scale and style of your video, you can expect at least 1-2 crew-members inclusive of lead cameraman/producer. Whether we’re filming a series of interviews in your office, or shooting at multiple locations for your promo – we treat each shoot in the same professional and positive way. We work with the latest gear to get that cinematic look, and we’re always pushing to get that ‘wow’ shot that will make your video stand out.
We use predominantly DSLR cameras as well BM cinema camera’s with large sensors, combined with wide range professional cine lenses, to capture stunning video. We also have access to more specialist equipment, such as drones and gimbal systems, to help take your video the extra mile. If we don’t have it then we wont shoot it. No large egos’ here. To make sure we are never in this predicament we are continually investing in equipment in order to provide the best video possible.
This is a key point for us
On the days of the shoot you probably won’t need to be present — unless you’re appearing in the video, of course. Film shoots are best left to the professionals.
This is the reason we create you such a detailed brief and script (and storyboard) so that the lead on set knows precisely what they’re doing on the shoot. Nothing is left to chance. However, if you or a representative wishes to watch the filming take place, this shouldn’t be a problem.
The director will ensure that:
- Everyone appearing on camera is relaxed and gives their best performance.
- The video is well-lit, well-shot and well-framed.
- Enough footage is filmed to make the editing process as easy as possible.
- The script and storyboard are followed closely.
Have trust in the crew. This is their speciality, and they will deliver to a high standard.
1. THE EDIT
Once all filming is complete, it’s time to begin editing. We like to work on the edit while it’s fresh, so we’ll aim to get your project in the edit suites in the days following your shoot. This step will need to be handled by a skilled editor. Our skilled editors will cut your footage together to create something that looks and sounds GREAT, with royalty free music tracks and creative text treatments.
They will examine many hours worth of footage and select the best takes to use in the final video. They will then cut the film together according to the script and storyboard, so that your core message shines through. This won’t apply to every video production, but sometimes you may want generated graphics and other special effects to help your video come to life. However, just like the editing of the footage, all additional graphics will follow the script and storyboard closely to ensure they blend in seamlessly with the rest of the video. During the editing process you might want to request alterations or revisions and we ask when giving feedback on your video, be clear, specific and ensure everything your request stays on brief. Always allow a reasonable amount of time for your changes to be made.
2. THE AUDIO
It’s not only the visuals that make a video great. Audio is key and must be accounted for too. A good edit must work specifically with the music of the video, to achieve the overall desired effect in the target audience. Subtle background music can help enliven almost any video. We always aim to make sure the audio complements the mood and tone of the video, it gets across your core message, and it is appropriate for your target audience and matches the pace of the edit.
Hand in hand with the music of your video is the voiceover. A voiceover isn’t necessary for every video. But if you’ve chosen to use one in your video, it’s important that it works with the footage just as well as any music, that the script is read in in a way that reinforces your core message and the voiceover has an emotive, pleasant-sounding voice.
3. THE COMPLETION
When your video is finished and approved, we’ll send your final files both digitally and on a USB stick in our bespoke presentation box.
We know how important it is to get your content online, so we also offer help and advice on getting your video on Facebook and Twitter so that you can share it across social channels.
First and foremost is to format your video for your required platform. This will mean the video being turned into the correct format and quality for its various uses, as outlined in our initial consultation. This might mean a HD version for use at a conference, or a more compressed and shortened version to be placed on social media.
After this is complete, your video will also need to be hosted online so it can be shared and distributed according to your strategy. Depending on your plan of distribution and your budget, you will have several options when it comes to hosting your video.
So we’ve reached the final step. Once your video content is filmed, edited, formatted and hosted, you can at last begin to distribute and promote it according to your video strategy.
